Lamborghini Fenomeno Roadster supercar: exceptional performance

Lamborghini Fenomeno Roadster is a limited-edition supercar that introduces the “HPEV V12” hybrid powertrain to an open-top two-seater from the Italian marque for the first time. Based on a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 working in conjunction with three electric motors, the system delivers a maximum output of 1,080 horsepower

It was in 1968 that Lamborghini unveiled its first limited-production model, the “Miura Roadster”. That marked the beginning of a journey that continued over the decades through subsequent limited editions including the “Reventón”, “Veneno”, “Centenario” and “Sián”, culminating today in the new open-top limited edition “Fenomeno Roadster”. Appropriately, its body colour also pays tribute to the iconic “Miura Roadster” introduced 58 years ago. Produced in just 15 examples, this homage to the past also serves to visually connect the evolution of Lamborghini’s limited editions with the latest motorsport-derived engineering solutions, resulting in the most powerful open-top car ever built by the company from Sant’Agata Bolognese.

A key factor behind this achievement is that the “Fenomeno Roadster” is the first Lamborghini open-top two-seater to feature the “HPEV V12” hybrid powertrain. The system combines a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine with three electric motors, including two Yasa axial-flux units mounted on the front axle and one radial-flux motor positioned on the rear axle. Together, they generate a combined output of 1,080 horsepower, with 245 horsepower supplied by the electric motors and the remaining 835 horsepower produced by the combustion engine at 9,250 rpm. This allows the “Fenomeno Roadster” to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 340 km/h.

Performance is therefore close to that of a Formula One single-seater, while remaining fully exploitable in complete safety under all driving conditions thanks to manually adjustable racing-derived dampers. These provide highly effective body motion control while offering a greater wheel-to-damper travel ratio.

Vehicle dynamics are further enhanced by a 6D sensor positioned close to the car’s centre of gravity and directly connected to the IPB (Integrated Power Brake) control unit. The sensor continuously measures acceleration along all three axes—longitudinal, lateral and vertical—as well as angular velocity in pitch, roll and yaw. This enables the control unit to accurately estimate both the vehicle’s sideslip angle and the instantaneous friction coefficient between the tyres and the road surface.

The result is outstanding stability even at high speeds on challenging mixed routes, aided by an entirely new aerodynamic package that includes a spoiler integrated into the windscreen. This directs airflow over the passenger compartment before channelling it into the engine bay, improving cooling efficiency for the combustion engine under all driving conditions. Additional air intakes positioned behind the doors contribute to the same objective, while a large rear diffuser and an active rear wing maximise downforce.

Despite incorporating a 7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the hybrid supercar maintains a remarkably low weight of less than 1,800 kilograms. Its dry weight of 1,780 kilograms has been achieved through an aerospace-derived chassis featuring a full multi-technology carbon-fibre monocoque combined with a front structure made from Forged Composite, an advanced composite material consisting of short, randomly oriented carbon fibres suspended in resin rather than woven into fabric. This solution provides greater structural lightness without compromising strength.

Carbon fibre is also extensively used throughout the interior, where a high-tech cockpit features three digital displays with hexagonal graphics, haptic controls and aviation-inspired switches arranged to allow the driver to remain fully focused on the road at all times.

Racing-derived braking system

The Lamborghini “Fenomeno Roadster” features CCM-R Plus carbon-ceramic brake discs manufactured with a three-dimensional structure of continuous carbon fibres embedded within a carbon matrix and finished with a special coating that significantly increases the durability of both the discs and the racing-derived organic brake pads. A dedicated ventilation system keeps both discs and pads at their optimum operating temperature even under the most extreme driving conditions.

Much more than a material

Reducing weight without compromising strength is the primary objective of Forged Composite, Lamborghini’s patented technology encompassing not only the material itself but also preform design, moulding and curing processes, and dedicated engineering specifications.

The material represents an evolution of conventional carbon-fibre sheet moulding compounds and consists of approximately 500,000 short carbon fibres within every six square centimetres, placed between two layers of resin film. This structure delivers a higher load-bearing capacity in bending per unit of mass than traditional woven carbon fibre.

Thanks to its fragmented composition, Forged Composite can also be moulded into far more complex geometries than conventional carbon fibre, making it particularly suitable for producing three-dimensional components as well as parts incorporating intricate features such as thickness transitions, openings and complex curves.
