With the “Safeteasy” project, based on transport in the form of magnesium hydride, hydrogen can be stored and transported in a safer, solid form

When we think of hydrogen, our minds immediately turn to compressed gas in cylinders or liquefied at temperatures below minus 250 degrees Celsius. In any case, transportation is dangerous. To overcome these limitations, the “Safeteasy” project was developed, based on transportation in the form of magnesium hydride. This allows hydrogen to be stored and transported in a safer solid form, without resorting to cryogenic processes.
Once at its destination, a slight heating of the material releases the gas again. The cost of transporting magnesium along with hydrogen remains unknown, given that this metal accounts for 92 percent of magnesium hydride’s weight.
